We would like to share with you our company's history and accomplishments from the inception of the company in 1860 to the launch of this website. Our presence has grown worldwide during the past century and a half as we continue to maintain our trademark quality while continuing our leadership in providing style and comfort to our individual and hospitality clientele.
1860
On the 1st of December, Frette, Payre & Chaboud is established by Jean Baptiste Edmond Frette, Alexandre Payre and Charles Chaboud. The company aims to manufacture and distribute home linens from its base in Grenoble, France.

1860
On the 1st of December, Frette, Payre & Chaboud is established by Jean Baptiste Edmond Frette, Alexandre Payre and Charles Chaboud. The company aims to manufacture and distribute home linens from its base in Grenoble, France.
1865
Two plants are established near Monza with production of luxury fabrics on jacquard looms concentrated in Concorezzo, where the company is still based today.
1878
The firm opens its first retail shop in via Manzoni, Milan, in the building where it still operates today.
1879-81
The company becomes E. Frette & C. Based in Monza, it is now 100% Italian. The founding partners are Giuseppe Maggi, Carlo Antonietti and Edmond Frette.
1880
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Kingdom of Italy commissions Frette to produce the linen for the Ministry and all Embassies worldwide, beginning a tradition which continues to this day.
1881
Frette becomes Official Purveyors to the Italian Royal Family. In the coming years over 500 noble European dynasties commission exclusive tailor-made linens from Frette. Each set is personalised with the families’ woven crest.
1881
Frette wins the first of many gold medals at the National Exhibition in Milan. The winning product is La Vega, a jacquard linen picture based on the painting by Francesco Lietti, portraying the ship which first circumnavigated Europe and reached the Arctic in a joint Italian-Swedish scientific expedition.
1894
Frette creates the Tablecloth of the “Holy Virgin” for the altar of St. Peter’s in Rome. Based on a drawing by the French painter Meurillion, this XIX century tablecloth is reproduced in 2000 for the papal celebrations at the Vatican.
1899
Frette starts supplying the Royal Danieli Hotel in Venice, to be followed by the Hotel Belle Venise and other leading hotels in succeeding years. These included the Ritz in Paris, the Savoy in London, the Plaza in New York and the Peninsula in Hong Kong.

Frette perfects and patents the Albert Gagedois method of textile bleaching - the first step in developing the unique white, soft and shiny finish for which the company is to become renowned.

Frette signs a new supply contract with Società di Navigazione Generale, the managing company behind many of Europe’s most prestigious cruiser liners. Frette table linen also dresses the banqueting rooms of the Titanic, and is still used today on the Orient Express train.
1977
The first Frette boutique opens in Bond Street, London.
1978
Frette Inc. is established in the United States.
1998
The Asian expansion begins with the establishment of the Hong Kong subsidiary. Today, there are 25 Asia-based Frette boutiques.
1999
Almost exactly one century after the creation of the first homewear collection, Frette introduces Frette To Wear.
2001
Frette introduces Luxury and Warm, the new collections of home accessories in silk, brocades, precious furs and cashmere - complementing the company’s long-established jacquards.
2005
Frette launches its first Limited Edition, Lucia, winning the Best in Bedding Design nomination from Elle Deco, China.
2006
Frette opens its first online boutique for the United States.
2006
Frette is acquired by JH Partners, a San Francisco-based private equity firm focused on investments in consumer products and services companies.
2009
Frette launches Edmond Frette - a new line designed to be more relaxed than is' parent collection. The first Edmond stores open in London and Milan.
2010
Frette celebrates its' anniversary: 150 years of unforgettable patterns, textures, fabrics and jacquards. To mark this event, the House launches a special limited edition: 150 Anniversary.
